Catalogue Note

Linke title: Guéridon Louis XV, violette bronzes ciselés dorés

As Christopher Payne states, the pencil entries in Linke's third Daybook for this popular table are complex and difficult to decipher. The first example with three legs appears to have been made by Saverte on December 9, 1889. Three cabinetmakers' dockets handwritten by Eprinsperger (sp?) show that he made two with four legs in September 1892 in 175 hours but a three-legged model in November in 274 hours.  The model continued to be available in the 1920s and 1930s in at least nine different versions, with marble or marquetry tops, three or four legs.
