Description

  • Pierre-Eugène-Emile Hébert
  • Bellerophon
  • signed: EMiLE HEBERT and entitled: .BELLEROPHON. twice
  • bronze, brown-green patina

Condition

The patina appears to have been applied and is slightly unstable in some places. In certain areas it has flaked, such as under the horse's front legs. Elsewhere is appears mottled. Judging from the staining to the warrior's chest and the patches of greening, the bronze has been outside and subjected to the elements. It has subsequently been waxed. Despite this the casting quality is good and the bronze is in good condition overall with minor dirt and wear. There has been a knock to the base at the front to the left of the title plaque. The bronze was cast in sections and original casting joints are slightly visible, including at the warrior's thighs and running horizontally through the vegetation supporting the horse. There are some slight nicks or pits to the bronze, including at the warrior's chest.
