Catalogue Note

As with the photograph offered as Lot 30, this print is an example of Sudek’s renewed interest in the pigment process in the 1950s.  This technique allowed him to render images in a vast array of rich tones, with subtle detail present in the deepest blacks and brightest highlights.  This quiet and poetic image is one of many made through his window in Prague, a series that shows the seemingly infinite variety of compelling pictures he could create, with limited means, from the confines of his small studio.
