Catalogue Note

Nicholas II's diaries are renowned for detailing more thoroughly the games he played in the evening than the politics he oversaw in the day. The Emperor's diary entry for the 4th September 1901, at which point he was travelling to France aboard the yacht 'Standard'  with his wife Alexandra Feodorovna, mentions having passed the time with continual games of Salta.
