Description

  • Sleeping Soldier from a Resurrection Scene

Condition

There is dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The alabaster is a fragment from a larger relief, and so has jagged edges except for the bottom side. There are three fractures running through the left side of the panel, which have been restored. The top half of the knight is slightly loose. There are a number of small abrasions and chips to the alabaster. The knight's proper right knee cap and arm are lost. There are remnants of original polychromy throughout. The fabric lining the mount is heavily frayed and the velvet heavily worn. There is a wire mount at the back and two metal screws. There is an old white paper label to the underside of the relief inscribed in pencil: 6870.
