upper portion of a leaf, 215mm. by 153mm., with a large arch-topped miniature enclosing a young clean-shaven man before a council of five seated elders, in a gothic interior with sculptures set into the walls, in the background the same young man led by a friend to the meeting, border on two sides of coloured acanthus leaves and foliage, enclosing a bearded man, some small scuffs and losses to paint, laid down on wooden board, nineteenth-century “no. 475” on reverse, carved gilt frame
