Catalogue Note

Audemars Piguet confirms production of this piece in 1982.

The present lot is an exquisite example of the work of Ni. Gi. Barna, an artist Audemars Piguet commissioned in the early 1980s to produce miniature enamel paintings fitted to a small group of watches. Barna's work displayed the artist's prowess with enamel, the most challenging of media. According to our research, only five Barna pieces are known: one featuring Bedouin horsemen, one featuring a fox hunt scene, and three, including the present lot, exploring maritime themes.

In today's market, pieces featuring enamel scenes full of movement, such as the present lot, are increasingly sought after by sophisticated collectors with a keen eye for aesthetics, respect for the master enamelers who paint them, and an appreciation for the complicated technical movement housed within these works of art.
