• gilt three quarter plate movement, bi-metallic compensation balance, slide repeat • gold cuvette engraved with presentation inscription • silver dial with matte chapter ring and foliate engraved center, subsidiary seconds, the front lid polychrome enameled with a portrait of an Indian dignitary, the reverse painted with a second Indian gentleman all within engraved geometric borders • diamond-set pendant • cuvette and movement signed • completed by a gold chain

The cuvette inscribed "Presented to Cursetjee Jamsetjee Esq., by Peeroz bye J.J. on the occasion of his marriage, 1869."
The two enamel miniature portraits featured on the outer casing of the present lot are of two wealthy Parsi merchants (presumably related) dressed in traditional Parsi wedding attire.
A Parsi (or Parsee) refers a member of a small ethnic community of Persian descent that have resided in India since fleeing persecution by the Muslim invaders of Persia in the 8th and 10th centuries. The Parsis settled in and around Bombay, where many became very successful merchants.
