This model, Ref. 6236, is one of the most complicated examples that Rolex produced. It is commonly known as the 'Jean-Claude Killy,' after the French Olympic and World Cup skiing champion. It is thought that the first example of this model was presented to Killy, who now sits on the board of Rolex, S.A.

This model followed shortly on the heels of a similar Dato-Compax model, Ref. 6036. The main difference between the two is the bezel on the later model was a separate third piece, while the earlier version had a two-piece case. The 6236 was produced in limited numbers from around 1958 until 1962.
The combination of triple calendar and chronograph is especially desirable in today's collector's market. The fact that this model was produced in smaller numbers than other Rolex references makes this series more valuable.
For other examples of this model, see Gobbi, I Cronografi Rolex: La Leggenda, pp. 408-409.
