Description

  • AN OVERSIZED 18K WHITE GOLD AND DIAMOND-SET BRACELET WATCH1974 REF 14105 C15
  • White Gold, Diamond, and Sapphire
  • length 41.5 mm, overall length 190 mm
• quartz Beta21 movement • pavé diamond-set dial with sapphire dot indexes on each quarter hour • pavé diamond-set case, stepped bezel, solid white gold case back secured by four screws • articulated pavé diamond-set bracelet • case, dial, movement, and bracelet signed

Condition

The movement is running at the time of cataloguing, and the battery has been recently replaced, however at some point in the future it will require a battery replacement. The Piaget signature to the dial does show some inconsistencies under a loupe. Case in overall good condition considering the age with some surface scuffs to the case back. It appears that the case has never been polished and the serial numbers to the case back are very easily legible. Bracelet in good condition with one small diamond lacking on the 7th 'bar' from the top; this is visible in the catalogue photograph. Circumference of bracelet is 190 mm, which could accomodate a relatively large wrist. Overall a substantial, heavy, and impressive watch.

Catalogue Note

The diamond weight is approximately 10.92 cts. Piaget confirms production in 1974.

The present example features a Beta-21 movement, released at the Basel fair in April 1970. It was the product of nearly 10 years of research and development by C.E.H., or Centre Électronique Horloger. Early quartz models all share a similar design with their large and generally more rectangular cases. This case shape was necessary to house the large rectangular shape of the movement. Today, the proportions and dimensions of this watch are quite stylish once again.

An identical example can be found in Cologni, F., Negretti, G., & Nencini, F, Piaget: Watches and Wonders Since 1874, New York, 1994, pp. 159.
