Catalogue Note
An early edition of John Seller's rare work; the maps are in the first state without plate number. The atlas was clearly assembled to order, omitting any maps of the Low Countries, regional maps of Africa and the general map of North America, while having a comprehensive selection of the regional maps of Asia, perhaps suggesting a merchant with trading interests in that region.
A manuscript note by the purchaser recording 30 maps (for 6s 4d), indicates that the North America map was apparently never present.
