Catalogue Note
A rare English atlas, published over six years and very seldom found complete.
"Thus have we with great pains, and at immense expence, finished the Atlas Geographus ... And tho' a work of this nature can hardly ever be said to be compleat; yet without vanity we may averr this to be the perfectest that has yet been published in any language" (note at foot of final page in vol.V).
Volumes 1 and 2 cover Europe whilst 3 -5 are on Asia, Africa and America respectively. A sixth volume (devoted to the British Isles) was planned but was never issued as part of this set. The volume largely devoted to the Americas (but including Australia) includes engraved folding maps of Australia and New Guinea.
