Catalogue Note
A large assemblage of hydrographic charts by the British Admiralty (founded in 1795) and the Dépôt des Cartes et Plans de la Marine (founded in 1720), the official chart-making agencies of the United Kingdom and France. The collection is accompanied by A Series of Charts of Banka, Sumatra and the Sunda Strait by the independent chart-makers James Imray & Son, “the leading private chart publisher of the day” (Fisher), various dates, over-stamped ‘Corrected to 1887’ (but possibly 20thcentury).
Many of the charts were unused, hence the overall good condition.
