Catalogue Note

A good copy of a very rare work. Blackmer, quoting Plesner, states that only 55 copies of volume 1 were printed in French and only 50 of volume 2. A German edition was published simultaneously in far larger numbers. An English edition was planned but the author went bankrupt.

Bröndsted, a Danish archaeologist and philologist, explored Greece and Asia Minor with Haller von Hallerstein, Jacob Linckh and Baron Stackelberg and conducted excavations at Aegina and Bassae. Eight parts of this work were projected but only these two completed; the first on Keos (Zea) and the second containing studies of the Parthenon.
