Catalogue Note

The Tabula Peutinger or Peutinger Table is a road map of the Roman world which depicts the area from southeast England to present-day Sumatra. These road surveys were produced at the command of Emperor Augustus (30BC-AD12) and were hung in Rome and other cities.

Ortelius had a facsimile of the Tabula Peutinger which he included in his Parergon, but Janssonius produced a larger one in 1652 and his plates were used for over 90 years.
