Catalogue Note

A staple of the stock of the leading printsellers of the day was a large map of the Holy Land, which formed one of the first series of maps prepared for classroom use, hence the heavy engraving and pictorial nature of the image, with examples published by Robert Sayer, John Fairburn, Cluer Dicey, John Haines, and this by Thompson. As wall-maps all are now rare, with but a single example of this map recorded on COPAC and not in Laor.

The right-hand sheet depicts Alexandria, Cairo, the Red Sea and the Arabian peninsula.
