Catalogue Note
Unusual French composite world atlas, apparently assembled in Year 11 of the French First Republic (1802-1803) from a variety of maps, perhaps brought together by an individual rather than a publisher, the end-papers and guards from printer’s waste.
Among the very scarce maps included are Clouet’s folio map of the world 1787 (but ‘Royale’ erased from the title), Mondhare’s ‘Théatre de la guerre présente entre les Turcs, [and] les Russes’, 1769, Mondhare’s British Isles 1780 (but an older plate?), de la Fosse Germany 1778; Mondare Switzerland 1777, de la Fosse Italy 1780; there are maps from older plates: by Jaillot, Bailleul (France), Julien (Spain), le Rouge and the Delisles.
