Second edition, 3 volumes bound in 2, folio (282 x 183mm.), woodcut initials and ornaments, black letter, roman and italic types, with "A briefe and true report of the Honourable voyage unto Cadiz" at end of volume 1, nineteenth-century diced russia gilt, [Church 322; PMM 105], lacking map (as usual), slight stain on p.573 vol.1, title and last leaf of vol.3 soiled, a few other minor slight stains or soiling, a few leaves at beginning of vol.1 cut close at head of page, 3P3 vol.3 (and other leaves?) possibly supplied from another copy, joints slightly split

"The most complete collection of voyages and discoveries, by land as well as by sea, and of the nautical achievements of the Elizabethans" (PMM). Hakluyt himself never travelled further than France, but he met or corresponded with many of the great explorers, navigators and cartographers including Drake, Raleigh, Gilbert, Frobisher, Ortelius and Mercator.

In addition to significant descriptions of the Americas, the work also contains accounts of Russia, Scandinavia, Persia, the Levant, Turkey, and many other countries.
