The scarcest of Dugdale's works, The History of Imbanking was published "at the instance of Lord Gorges and others, who were the principal adventurers in that costly and laudable undertaking for draining the great level, extending into a considerable part of the counties of Cambridge, Huntingdon, Northampton, Norfolk, and Suffolk" (Lowndes).
