Catalogue Note

A fine, unsophisticated copy of the first great illustrated Russian flora, this copy formerly in the collection of the Jussieu family of distinguished naturalists. The work was intended to have between 500 and 600 plates, with the costs of publication underwritten by Catherine II, however funds were not forthcoming for the projected later volumes and the work was abandoned.
