Catalogue Note
This splendid engraving was produced for Melling's great work Voyage pittoresque de Constantinople et des rives du Bosphore (first published in 1809). Several preparatory drawings for this print are illustrated in the 1991 catalogue of the Melling exhibition at the Musée Carnavalet, Paris (pp.36-37).
