Catalogue Note
"Dalvimart's is one of the basic works on Turkish costume, which has provided the prototypes for numerous other illustrative material. It is known that Dalvimart travelled in Turkey and Greece in 1797-8" (Atabey). This copy is the true first edition, with watermarks dated 1796, and the colouring more detailed than in reprints.
The second edition of Wageman (as is this copy) "is much more imposing than the first [edition]" (Atabey).
This set bound in red morocco has the best editions of each work.
