Catalogue Note

First edition. Augustinus de Ancona (1243-1378) was a staunch defender of papal privilege and power, and this is his main text on the subject. This copy has some pencil notes by Mendham as it was a text of considerable import for his research.

Schüssler's press operated from 1470 (with the publication of the first Latin edition of Josephus) until the publication of this work in 1473, after which he sold his five presses to the monastery of SS. Ulrich and Afra, though he continued to work as a bookdealer and bookbinder. His single typeface was taken over from Günther Zainer, who had ceased using it in 1470.
