Catalogue Note
A strictly contemporary collection of German tracts, some with their dates of purchase and with the date of binding, belonging to the last provost of St Lawrence in Nuremberg, which was the first church in Germany to become Lutheran in 1525.
Chiericato's speech at the Diet of Nuremberg set forth Hadrian VI's anti-Lutheran agenda as well as his desire to progress with his crusade against the Turks. The following work by the Pope includes a list of the annual tax required from each church and monastery across Christendom: St Augustine's in Canterbury was due to pay the massive sum of 1,300 florins, and Westminster 2,000 florins.
