Catalogue Note
This is the first of Philipp Melanchthon's editions of this chronicle, originally composed in the early thirteenth century and a valuable source for early imperial German history, but now with the text continued up to the year 1537. The continuation records modern history from a Reformation viewpoint; on p.470 the publication of Erasmus's Novum Instrumentum (see lot 16) is recorded, along with Luther's first protestation about indulgences, and Johannes Reuchlin of Pforzheim is called an "incomparable hero".
