Chancery folio (282 x 203mm.), 336 leaves, a-c8 d-z6.8 A-V6.8 X-Z6 [et]6 [con]8, double column, 53 lines plus headline, gothic type, 3- to 9-line initial spaces, woodcut illustration of the Crucifixion on f3, early sixteenth-century blind-stamped calf over wooden boards (probably English or Netherlandish), central panel tooled to a diaper pattern with a diamond-shaped floral tool and a floral roll-tooled border, rebacked in calf with gilt lettering and small stamps, red edges, manuscript fragment removed from binding and bound at front, in modern brown buckram folding box, last leaf repaired at lower corner, rebacked, lower corner of upper cover repaired, lacking both clasps

Catalogue Note

Biel, a scholastic theologian, taught in Tübingen from 1484 until his death in 1495. This is the second edition of his treatise on the Mass. Johann Otmar, the first printer in Tübingen, worked there from 1498 until 1501 as printer to the university; he had previously worked in Reutlingen.
