Catalogue Note

This is one of more than twenty incunable editions of Rolewinck's chronicle, of which Prüss produced four Latin and one German edition. The woodcuts are based on those used for the Basel edition in German and for the Rougemont edition in Latin, both printed in 1481. However, this edition contains a rather naive woodcut frontispiece of a pilgrim, rather than the sophisticated frontispiece depicting the author presenting his book to a King within an architectural setting, which appears in Prüss's edition of [not before 1490], Goff R276.
