folio (320 x 210mm.), printed in red and black throughout, large woodcut on title-page, a1 with large woodcut of a priest performing mass in a church, woodcut illustrations, printed music (some staves printed blank, some with notation added in manuscript), dd3-4 (the Canon of the Mass with two full-page woodcuts, one hand-coloured) printed on vellum, contemporary Netherlandish blind-tooled calf over wooden boards, vellum manuscript fragments in binding, ?lacking H11-12 (last two leaves), z1 and [con]2 and dd5 slightly damaged at foot, bb3 repaired at foot, dd6 loose, quire ee worn, spine covering split, lacking both clasps, binding slightly rubbed

Provenance

Chapel of St Mary Magdalene in the metropolitan church of St Rumbold in Malines/Mechelen, early inscription on title-page; bought at the sale of D. van den Zype in Malines in 1742; Jean-François van de Velde, inscription opposite title-page, professor of the Grand Collège, Louvain, whose library of more than 14,000 books was sold in Ghent in 1831-1832; Joseph Mendham, his name and address (11 Bloomsbury Square) on a loose piece of paper inserted at front, postmarked "Ju. 6 184[?]"

Van de Velde had also owned a copy of the 1502 Liège Missal.
