The painting is in its original wooden and stucco frame
Under naked eye, a few upheavals and cracks are scattered in the background in the right hand part
Under UV light, a few retouchings are scattered in the backgroung, in the arm, along the shoulder of the woman and in the foliage in the right hand part

Catalogue Note
Elève de Charles Sellier et d’Alexandre Cabanel à l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Aimé Morot est Premier Prix de Rome en 1873. Médaille d’Honneur en 1880 grâce au Bon Samaritain (conservé au musée du Petit Palais), Morot épousa l'une des filles de Jean-Léon Gérôme.
Exposé au Salon de Bordeaux en 1885, le tableau est salué par la critique : « La Charmeuse de M. Aimé Morot n’est-elle pas, en effet, la plus gracieuse fantaisie qu’on puisse imaginer ? On ne se lasse pas de contempler ce joli visage encadré par des feuillages qui le dorent, l’harmonisent et dont les yeux veloutés fascinent ceux qui les regardent ; une exécution irréprochable vient compléter cette œuvre charmante qu’on oublie difficilement». Le Courrier de l’art dans son article sur le Salon considère ce tableau comme l’un des meilleurs qui y fut exposé.
