Condition

The painting is in overall good condition. It has been relined and put as a rectangle, probably during the first half of the 20th century. The painting is under a thick old varnish, we can see two small lacks in the lower left corner. There is a trace of an old patch, which is probably in between the original canvas and the relining one, corresponding to a restoration under the shouldr of the character on the right. Under UV lignt: Under a green uniform varnish.
