- Huile sur panneau cintré dans la partie supérieure
Condition
The painting is in overall good condition.
It has been restored approximately fifty years ago, this restoration has slightly took of the glazes of the left part of the face which is in the shadow.
Under UV lamp:
We can see a line of restoration crossing the painting in the red coat of the Virgen, her sleeve, the hand of the Christ, his cheek and the left part of the face of the Virgen. This line correspond to a junction between two panels.

La représentation de la Vierge de dos avec le visage et l'enfant qu'elle porte tournés vers le spectateur est très rare dans la peinture occidentale. Il existe dans la base de données du RKD trois exemples de ce type de représentation, toutes anonymes et datées de la même période que notre tableau.
Le croissant de lune représenté sous la Vierge est une référence à la femme apocalyptique de la vision de Saint Jean qui symbolise l'immaculée conception de la Vierge Marie.
