Condition

The photography is slighlty too light Under naked eye the painting is in good condition. We can notice some verticale lines under the painted couch in the lower left hand part. Under UV light, a few old retouchings are visible in the sky. Several tiny retouchings are visible on the left edge, on the lower edge, in one of the sheeps and in the foilage The painitng is in very good condition

Catalogue Note

Emile Bergerat, dans l'introduction au catalogue de la vente Sedelmeyer (p.12), rend "hommage au Ravin boisé, de Marilhat, étude d'une conscience infinie et d'une perfection suprême de dessin que Troyon a faite plus précieuse encore en y semant des figures d'animaux". Seule composition à quatre mains de Marilhat et Troyon connue, cette oeuvre a probablement été commandée par Mr Davin à Marilhat avant que Troyon n'y ajoute des moutons et des chèvres, à la demande de Mr Davin.
