Catalogue Note

The two large palmettes at either end of this rug are unusual for a rug of this small format.  From all of the Isphahan rugs and carpets in the Clark collection, one of these palmettes was selected for a detail illustration in the 1948 Corcoran Gallery of Art bulletin.   While similar in overall design scheme to lot 10 in this catalogue, the two foliate forms that flank the center of this rug are also not customary and may be unique to this rug.

Please note that a license may be required to export textiles, rugs and carpets of Iranian origin from the United States. Clients should enquire with the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regarding export requirements. Please check with the Carpet department if you are uncertain as to whether a lot is subject to this restriction or if you need assistance.
