Catalogue Note

The maker's mark is probably that of Jonas Auvin (1809-1860), who began his studies of silverwork in Petersburg in 1828. He achieved the status of master in 1843 and by 1849 had his own workshop producing for Nichols & Plinke, who supplied the Imperial court with much of its silver in this period.
