Catalogue Note

Jules Porgès was a Vienna-born, Paris-based financier who was among the first to invest in South Africa's gold and diamond mines. He and his wife, who amassed important collections of art and jewelry, made numerous purchases from Fabergé. This piece, like some other examples of items sold through Fabergé's London shop, was inscribed with the firm's name in Latin letters. We are grateful to Svetlana Chestnykh for assistance in cataloguing this lot.
