rectangular with gadroon borders, slip-lock handles, each cover engraved with arms under bishop's mitre and within the Garter, matched on dishes around initial S, each cover also engraved with the arms of the Order of the Garter under ribbons engraved "The Earl of Dartmouth" and "The Duke of Portland"

Catalogue Note

The arms are those of John Fisher, 1748-1825, chaplain to George III, preceptor to Charlotte, Princess Royal in 1805, bishop of Exeter and Salisbury and chancellor of The Order of the Garter, friend and patron of John Constable. He is buried in St. George's Chapel, Windsor and there is a monument to him in Salisbury Cathedral.
