Catalogue Note

The Cottage Service was the first example of a coordinated glass and porcelain service being ordered simultaneously from the Imperial Glass and Porcelain Manufactories. It was also unusually complex, comprising four sizes of wine glasses, champagne glasses, and tumblers. Tamara Malinina has noted that the ruby colored champagne glasses meant for champagne or serving iced desserts were introduced in the mid-19th century. See T. Malinina, Imperatorskii stekliannyi zavod XVIII-nachalo XX veka, St. Petersburg, 2009, p. 270
