Catalogue Note

Carl Eldh (1873-1954) studied sculpture in Paris from 1896 to 1903. He supported himself by working as an ornamental wood carver for cabinetmakers. In 1903 he returned to Sweden and joined the academy of Swedish artists, or Konstnarsforbundet, and designed decorative objects in the modern style for various Swedish manufactures, such as these stands done according to the Elmqvist method. Examples of his large-scale work adorn public spaces and museums in Sweden, and his studio in Stockholm is now the Carl Eldh Museum
