Catalogue Note

This bold design, based on Altman's decorations for Palace (then Uritsky) Square in Petrograd during the celebrations marking the first anniversary of the October Revolution in 1918, was produced in great quantities, sometimes as many as 121 in a month, and these modern examples of the Sovietization of Imperial culture were symbolically important diplomatic gifts.
