Catalogue Note

Fedor Solntsev (1801-1892), designer of the Kremlin Service, used similar elements of strapwork and state symbols in this service ordered on the occasion of the marriage Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich to Alexandra Iosifovna, Princess of Saxe-Altenburg in 1848. The smaller platter is from a service ordered in 1840-1841 for use at the Farm Palace. This service was originally created in 1840-1841 for the heir to the throne, Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich (later Alexander II). Additions to the service continued to be made until the beginning of the twentieth century.
