  • Length of Base 6 5/8 in.; 16.9 cm
formed as two peasant cottages separated by a picket fence and a shed enclosing a cart, the surfaces finely engraved to imitate wood, brick, or grass; the cottage roofs serving on slip-on covers and concealing glass liners, raised on a shaped oval base with scalloped foot, struck with Cyrillic maker's mark T.N, probably for Teodor Niugren, contained in fitted oak case

with very fine detail and numerous minute details; the roof of the cottage at left with a slight bend to one edge, the interior of the case lid possibly relined
