Catalogue Note

Viktor Barthe was one of the principal organisers and participants of the ground-breaking Bubnovy valet exhibition of December 1910 - January 1911 alongside Mikhail Larionov and Natalia Goncharova, close friends from the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Moscow. They collaborated together on the Ostinyi Khvost (1912) and Mishen (1913) exhibitions.

In 1918 Barthe settled in Paris. View of Pont Neuf combines a palette of gentle blue hues and quick, loose brushwork characteristic of his plein air compositions.  Barthe expanded his practice into book illustration and academic writing and frequently exhibited during the 1920s at the Salon des Indépendants, Salon d'Automne and Salon des Tuileries.
