Condition

The canvas is sound. There is minor craquelure in the center and lower left quadrant. Under UV pigment fluoresces in the center (near the craquelure lines) and in the upper left corner, though varnish prevents a conclusive analysis.

Catalogue Note

In 1910, Baranov-Rossiné left for Paris via Stockholm, Kiel and Munich. During this period he familiarised himself with European stylistic innovations. Cubist, Orphist and Cézannist influences are discernible in this peaceful light-filled landscape, while the tonal palette, the pure forms and the well-defined composition endow the work with a pleasing sense of balance.
