Catalogue Note
This vibrant design for the folklore inspired ballet Midnight Sun is inscribed in French by Larionov, identifying the celebrated dancer Leonid Masinne as the figure in the title role. The inscription also reveals that the ballet was first performed in 1915 at the Paris National Opera in aid of the British Red Cross.
