- Portrait of a Gentleman, Probably Sidney Godolphin (1610-1643)
- watercolour and bodycolour on vellum, held in a gold frame enamelled in pale turquoise, the reserve decorated in white, black and rust with a raised central rosette and dentelle border, the suspension loop set with a ruby, the clasp holder with a diamond, later red leather and gold tooled case
- 7.1 by 5.7cm; 2 7/8 by 2 1/4 in.
with flowing fair hair, wearing full armour and a lawn collar,

Condition
Some retouching of background between the crown of the head and the top edge. Minor water damage along edge between 1 and 2 o'clock. Some scuffing of border between 4 and 8 o'clock. There is a nick to the surface on the side of his nose and a light scratch running across lid of his right eye. None of these minor points detract from the impact of this poignant portrait.
