The complete portfolio, comprising ten screenprints in colors, 1986, working proofs aside from the numbered edition of 250 (total edition includes 50 artist's proofs), the Mother and Child and Annie Oakley unique color trial proofs, some sheets with the publisher's inkstamp on the verso, Gaultney, Klineman Art, Inc., New York, and with the printer's blindstamp, Rupert Jasen Smith, New York (except Annie Oakley, Plains Indian Shield, Mother and Child, and Geronimo, John Wayne lacking the printer's blindstamp only), on Lenox Museum Board (10 prints)

Condition

The prints are generally in good condition, shaved at the sheet edges. Most with pale, mottled foxing in the unprinted areas of the sheet recto and the verso, some minor surface soiling and pin-holes at the sheet corners, as is typical of working proofs. Condition reports for the individual prints follow: John Wayne - pin-holes at the sheet corners, a few nicks and handling creases at the lower sheet edge, breaking through the ink surface slightly. The verso with pale scattered foxing. Annie Oakley - a pin-hole at the sheet corners and center of top and bottom sheet edges, an infrequent tiny fox mark or minor surface soiling in the unprinted areas of the sheet, a few minor surface scuffs. The verso with scattered pale foxing and some surface soiling. General Custer - very pale discoloration and some tiny foxing visible in the unprinted areas of the sheet recto and verso, a semi-circular repaired tear (1/2 inch) at the upper left sheet edge, and minor surface soiling at lower right corner. Northwest Coast Mask - a short, diagonal crease at the lower right corner, infrequent minor surface soiling in the unprinted background and two nicks at the upper sheet edge. The verso with scattered pale foxing and minor surface soiling. Kachina Dolls - occasional traces of pale discoloration or a tiny fox mark are visible upon close inspection in the unprinted areas of the sheet, a few apparently touch-in in the lower right, and infrequent minor surface soiling. The verso with pale, mottled discoloration and minor surface soiling. Plains Indian Shield - occasional very pale foxing in the unprinted areas of the sheet, pin-holes at the sheet corners and center of top and bottom sheet edges, many with associated rust stains, a strip of slight skinning along the upper sheet edge, and a printing imperfection in the navy ink at the tip of the feathers at right. The verso with pale, mottled discoloration and occasional minor surface soiling. Mother and Child - pale, mottled discoloration and some minor surface soiling at the sheet edges, a fox mark in the red below her hair at center, and a soft handling crease at lower left breaking through the printed surface slightly. The verso with pale, mottled discoloration and two areas with stray ink. Geronimo - occasional scattered pale fox marks in the unprinted areas of the sheet recto and verso, a pin-hole at each sheet corner and center of top and bottom sheet edges, a diagonal crease and two crimped edges at the lower right corner with associated hairlines cracks in the ink surface, a few minor surface scuffs. Indian Head Nickel - three discolored specks in the image at lower right, very pale discoloration and some tiny foxing in the unprinted areas of the sheet recto and verso, pin-holes at the sheet corners and center of top and bottom sheet edges, many with associated rust stains, three short tears at the sheet edges (bottom, left, and top). Teddy Roosevelt - occasional pale discoloration and foxing in the unprinted areas of the sheet recto and verso, two handling creases along the lower sheet edge, breaking through the ink surface slightly, and some minor surface scuffs.
