Both canvases appear fresher in colour and lighter in tone than the catalogue illustrations would suggest. The paint surface of the first, as illustrated above the door in the catalogue is in good overall condition and it has no apparent damage or loss of paint. There is evidence of a glossy varnish overall. Examination under ultraviolet reveals evidence of what appears to be some old localised areas of retouching to areas of shadow however the thick varnish makes them difficult to discern whilst impeding further inspection. There are also some very minor new cosmetic flecks of retouching in the centre. The paint surface of the second is likewise in good overall condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint, however there is the same glossy varnish. There are scattered areas of strengthening to the forms and there is also retouching to the vertical stretcher bar marks on both sides. There is also some minor scattered retouching including an old vertical surface scratch lower left above the peaches. Both are offered gilt wood and plaster punchwork frames in good overall condition.
