Condition

The cloisonné box and cover is in general good condition with minor enamel loss and refill, as consistent with age. The box has enamel loss particularly to where the handles are attached to the box and along the extremities, including an area measuring 0.7x0.1cm and another measuring 0.3 x 0.1cm. There is a 1x0.5cm area of enamel loss below the rim, which is now filled with gilt-metal. There is an area of loss to the tip of the beard of one chilong handle. The enamels have characteristic pinprick holes. The cover has a circa 4 x 0.3cm area of loss to the turquoise enamel in one corner and minor hairline cracks to the enamels. The gilt-bronze finial has minor casting flaws and dents. There is considerable rubbing to the gilt-bronze.
