Description

  • Berenice Abbott
  • 'RADIO ROW'
  • Gelatin silver print
numbered '101' in the negative, the photographer's Federal Art Project 'Changing New York' and caption stamps, with title, date, and annotations in pencil, on the reverse, 1936 (Yochelson, Lower West Side, pl. 5)

Condition

This photograph, on double-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally very good condition. While the highlights are somewhat warm, the print remains rich and detailed. In raking light, a few pin-point-sized impressions and deposits of original retouching are visible overall. Silvering is visible in the darks and in the black margin edges. The edges are rubbed and the tip of the upper right corner is creased. The reverse of the print is appropriately age-darkened at its periphery. On the reverse of the print, the 'Changing New York' stamp is annotated in pencil with the following information: Place: 'Cortlandt Street, Manhattan' Neg. # '101' Code: 'III BI' Date: 'April 8, 1936'
