Description

  • Bernd and Hilla Becher
  • 'COOLING TOWERS'
  • Gelatin silver prints
a sequence of 9 photographs, each ferrotyped, 8 mounted, 7 titled or annotated 'C. T.' and numbered sequentially, each framed, 1964-73, printed later; accompanied by a signed and titled sequence map (Bernd and Hilla Becher, cat. no. 1) (9)

Condition

These ferrotyped prints, trimmed by the photographers to the image, are in generally very good condition. As is frequently seen with ferrotyped prints, occasional pitting of the glossy surface is visible overall. There are some small handling creases and raised areas, which likely occurred prior to or as a result of drymounting. There is minor edge wear, with miniscule losses of emulsion at the edges, and the print corners are bumped. Some of the prints are trimmed slightly irregularly. The edges of the mounts are slightly darkened. Each photograph is matted and framed. Prints 2 through 9 are mounted. The reverse of the mount of the second print in the sequence is titled in pencil. The reverse of the mounts of prints 3 through 9 are annotated 'C. T.' in pencil. The first print in the sequence is not mounted and is hinged to its mat. On the reverse of the first print, '6,' '2b,' and '1' are written and crossed out in pencil. Photographs 2-9 were printed in 1999. The first photograph in the sequence was re-printed in 2013.
